NOTE THE TIME CHANGE! B/c of the weather getting cooler and because the days are shorter we're moving the meetup back to 3pm for the time being. This February we're focusing on the heart - the dog's heart that is! Most of the dogs we get from shelters and owner surrenders have never been on heartworm prevention and are put in danger of contracting heartworms. With the warm climate in North Carolina, dogs not on heartworm prevention have a 50% chance of contracting heartworms. Please bring heartworm pills to donate to rescue this month (interceptor, heartguard plus, triheart - all are appreciated!) and help care for the doxies in need! Meetup is at 3pm on Saturday. Please remember that our new meeting location is NOT in the small dog park but in the adjacent fenced in area specifically designed for groups such as ours! "I can't think of anything that brings me closer to tears than when my old dog -- completely exhausted after a hard day in the field -- limps away from her nice spot in front of the fire and comes over to where I'm sitting and puts her head in my lap, a paw over my knee, and closes her eyes and goes back to sleep. I don't know what I've done to deserve that kind of friend." -- Gene Hill Come out to the park and celebrate your best friend.

Hello folks! It is May and that means it is time for the annual North Carolina Wiener Roast in Kernersville, NC this year! It should be a lot of fun with lots of exciting dog friendly vendors. There are games for the wieners and humans alike, food for humans and dogs and lots of fun things to buy, auctions to participate in and lots of great doxie loving people. Our normal meetup has been cancelled as it coincides with this full day event! Come and bring your wieners for a dog-gone good time! You can get more information at: http://www.almosthom erescue.org/ncpicnic /ncpicnic2007.htm

For those of you who can't make it to Kernersville for the fun filled picnic, there is also another event the same weekend called Dog Day in the Park which is supposed to be a lot of fun (though isn't just for doxies!). There will be 40 vendors on hand giving out free gifts, prizes and info and there will be groomers, trainers, pet sitters, vets and much more.
