Gussied Up, a wonderful Dog Boutique, will be hosting this Meetup. Kim, the owner and ever creative one, owns a Dachshund Mix named Gus, and loves all Dachshunds (and breeds). She will be providing treats for the dogs and a CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST for the humans. Her boutique is filled to the brim with wonderful items (Nathan, Roo, and Buddy LOVE going there), and Kim is giving all members 10% off any purchase during this Meetup. No, you don't have to buy anything to attend, but you'll really enjoy seeing: - Dachshund themed collars & leads (and other B*Ling items) - Dachshund Christmas stockings (and other breeds) - Dachshund Ornaments (and other breeds) - Dachshund Calendars (and other breeds) - Holiday clothes and sweaters - Beds and Bedding - Toys - Gourmet Treats (very special - look too good for a dog treat) - Dachshund prints (and other breeds) - So much to see - wonderful items from a simple T-Shirt to a fancy wool coat - Hats and Caps ....and so forth AND It that wasn't enticing enough, Kim has arranged with Tree House in the Glen to provide their Santa for pictures! This will NOT be a formal photography session as YOU ARE the photographer - so it's FREE! Santa will be available for pictures from 9am - 10am. Tree House in the Glen is across the street from Gussied Up. I know it's early, but it will be worth it...Don't you agree? See you there!

It's Halloweenie Time! It is that time of year to dress up or dress down your pup(s) in any costume you desire! If your pup(s) are like my Roo and don't move if wearing anything more than neck wear, then that will be fine too! It's also October B'Day celebration time, and our sweet Sascha will be turning 9 years old - even more reason to celebrate! Of course B'Day hats for all the October B'Days, doggie cake and human cake too! Prizes for costumes, and pawty favors too - oooh, my boys can't wait! A no-host lunch on the patio of the Rock Bottom Brewery in Campbell will be the setting for our picture perfect pawty. The staff at Rock Bottom Brewery love Love LOVE us to be there as several of them own Dachshund's! They always set up a nice area for us and we and our pups are treated very well. So, mark your calendars and ask your pups what they want to be. Mine? Nathan is requesting NOT to be the girl this time (smile). Elizabeth

It's Al and Joyce's twins, "Maxine & Molly's" Birthday, and Al & Joyce want to have a potluck to celebrate! Al and Joyce have graciously opened their home for our September 2009 Meetup. Most of you know, they have 5 female Dachshunds and have made a very nice fenced yard for all to play in. My Nathan, who usually sticks pretty close to me at a park, runs and runs with Roo on their lawn. All the Dachshunds play really cute together, and it's a nice place to sit around as a human, too. It's a POTLUCK, so please let me know what you're bringing so I can shop to round out the menu. Hot Dogs/Buns and such will be provided. If your Dachshund(s) has a September Birthday, please let me know so he/she can receive their special Birthday Hat! Elizabeth

The highly anticipated, annual Dachshund Derby, The Highway Wiener Nationals is again planned for this year on Sunday, August 9th starting at 11:00am (be there by 10:30am). DACHSHUNDS ONLY will take to the lawn at Palo Alto High School to showcase their speed and race for the title. Nathan and Roo have participated in this race, and it was a lot of fun. Last year Nathan won his heat, but unfortunately at the next race Nathan got so excited when it was time to go forward, he just jumped in the air and twirled! Roo saw something he liked better and ran sideways! Neither one came close to the finish line, but it was very cute to watch. All participants are very gentle with their pups... If you'd like to enter YOUR Dachshund, please email your name, your dogs name, and a description of your dog to: dean@highway.org Dean will email you back with a confirmation. If your dog is competing, you must arrive by 10:30am to sign in. This is a very well organized Event, so please don't be late. If you don't want to enter your Dachshund in this fun, stress free Dachshund race, bring your Dachshund(s) to watch the races - it's a real hoot. This FREE, Dachshund ONLY, 5th annual race will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes! Bring a little money to purchase an Event T-Shirt - last years shirt was very cute... It's National Mustard Day, and in celebration there will be a BBQ sausage feast served at and after the race. (all free) More information on this Event can be found at: http://www.highway.o rg/newsandevents/wie nernationals/

WE LOVE THIS EVENT... Neither the Swallows' return to San Juan Capistrano, nor the annual Butterfly Migration to Pacific Grove can compare to the once yearly congregation of Dachshunds to Carmel. We are not sure how the 130+ Dachshunds arrive by WienerMobile, but we know that as a breed they have a talent for such clownish antics. All tribes of the Dachshund Nation are represented at this event including reds, blacks, black & tans, creams, dapples, piebalds and brindles. Of course, there are always a few wannabe hanger-on'ers as is always the case with such Events. Not every dog can be a Dachshund!! Fortunately, the Pesky Papparazzi are always able to get some choice photos of these jet-setting A-listers, and The Monterey Herald once again will make us famous with a wonderful article! One French Piebald, Sascha, compares the setting favorable to her summer visits to the South of France. One local California dude, Roo, stated, "Nothing beats a day at the beach with so many fine Dachshund babes to watch". DETAILS: - Below the staircase at 13th and Scenic Drive in Carmel (area of beach where dogs can be off-leash) - NOT A GENERAL POTLUCK this year (in past hot dogs and buns provided), so BRING YOUR PICNIC LUNCH and DRINKS - Bonfires will be lit later in the afternoon - Don't forget all the necessary things for being out in the sun all day - sunblock, hats, umbrellas, chairs, water, bowls for water, snacks, handi-wipes, pooper scoopers, blankets, cameras and whatevers... - This is a multi-group Dachshund Event, so there will be a lot of new faces - last year around 120 Dachshunds were there and we ended up on the local evening news! This is a really engaging Event as Dachshunds love to dig! - Carmel is the most dog friendly city in California and loves all dogs...But, remember, only from 13th avenue on is the beach off-leash - and do remember to pick up after your doggies. NOTE: We had to get special permission from Carmel's Chamber of Commerce for this years EVENT because some members failed to pick up after their pups last year and the beach was left a mess (residents complained). Please remember this is a public beach and we are all responsible for keeping it clean and beautiful...We don't want to stop doing this very fun Event in the future.

FUN! Our 2nd Dachshund Event in July will be hosted by Lisa and her family at their home in Sunnyvale. Lisa has a 97 year old Grandmother who loves Hattie, their Dachshund, and desires to see all our Dachshunds romp and play together in their large and grassy back yard. We're very grateful for this repeat invitation to meet as the upcoming Dachshund Event in Carmel isn't for everyone. Summer is hard with all the family plans, so a local Event will keep us connected! Note the NEW TIME and DAY (Sunday) for this Event (10:00am). Last year July was really hot, so a morning meetup on the grass should be perfect! Continental Breakfast Available for the humans: Coffee, Juice, Muffins I hope to see all of you there! Elizabeth

PLEASE NOTE the NEW TIME! The Ed Levin Dog Park is: - Centrally located, about 2.5 miles east of I-680, but the dog park signs are VERY SMALL - pay very close attention to the signs and arrows to avoid getting lost. - Away from any city street, fast cars, and even if your baby(ies) get away, they are still within a park (located at the very end of the county park) - Easily accessible by car and foot - no hills to climb, not far to walk - Separated for Big Dogs and Small Dogs - Natural surface with large trees, benches to sit on - VERY LARGE for those who really love to romp (humans and Dachshunds) - Has all the usual pooch amenities, from water to picnic tables to poop bags. And, it has an interesting extra one: A tiny concret-floored fenced area with a bench. A nice place for anyone who wants to feel protected from pounding paws. (small child, elderly parent)... JUNE BIRTHDAYS will be celebrated! There is a small entrance fee ($6.00), but you can buy a yearly pass that allows you entrance to any county park. See you all there!

For more information: http://www.losaltosk iwanis.org Since 1947, on the Saturday following Mother's Day, the Los Altos Kiwanis Club Pet Parade begins on Main Street, promptly at 10 a.m. From simple beginnings, it has evolved into the city's most renowned civic event - a spring celebration that attracts thousands of kids, along with their pets, wagons, bicycles, parents and neighbors. It includes youth groups, marching bands, fire engines, and antique police cars. There is no fee to participate. We join up with the Los Altos Dachshund Group and walk behind our banner the entire parade route. This will be our 4th year participating - it's a lot of fun! Think about a fun costume (that's easy to walk in) for your Dachshunds - as simple as a special collar to very elaborate. Nathan, Roo, and Buddy don't walk, they prance! May is a good month for a parade, because it's not hot yet and still very pleasant... Humans dress as they please - dressed up, dressed down, a costume or a Dachshund T-Shirt - be comfortable! See you there!
